A good overall book on how to develop communication skills

As with most of the "Dummy" books, Communication Skills for Dummies by Elizabeth Kuhnke presents a comprehensive and clearly stated overview of how to develop skills for communication in an informal and even humourous style. The book is divided into six parts covering such topics as Honing Your Communication Skills, Being Receptive to Others, Managing Communication Challenges and Communication Across Cultures. I found the latter chapter particularly useful as I often interact with people from different countries and cultures. The author focuses mostly on face-to-face situations but also covers communicating with technology such as email, by phone and in written form.
A good solid guide for everyone who communicates.

Author Elizabthe Kuhnke, is the author of Communication Skills for Dummies and is highly qualified, running a UK communication company on a day to day basis helping people run effective communications within their organizations.
This is a short but effective manual on business communication. Fifteen chapters go over the essentials basics like communication styles, goals, negotiation and communicating across cultures. I found the chapter on getting yourself out of sticky situations especially useful for my job in Customer Service. The tips and explanations are clear and concise and are useful to anyone from a student to a 20 year executive. Anyone in any industry needs to know the fine art of healthy and productive communication. This would be a good reference to keep on hand in the office for team training and employee education.

A Great Refresher!

I found this book really great. For someone, like me, who has been out of school for a number of years (I won't say how many) then this is a wonderful refresher. I really enjoyed the sections on modern technology because I happen to be the world's worst texter. I swear I am! Hubby will text me and use some of the common slang and I am like "What?" This book was so helpful I think I am going to start using it in my homeschool lessons because the sections on Communicating Across Cultures and The Part of Tens is so helpful. I think that the kids will gain a lot from it. The Part of Tens gives you ten essential tips for speaking face to face which I think everyone needs. The Communicating Across Cultures will help them learn what I already try to teach them everyday and that is to accept cultural differences. As with all of their other books, For Dummies books delivers another winner for easy to read and understanding a topic!
