A short, wonderful story

Reviews are normally how I base my decision if I'm going to read a book or not, followed by the blurb and if I have read the author previously. There were no reviews for Any Closer however I just recently read A Matter of Time from Mary Calmes, which I absolutely loved and recommend highly, so I thought I would give this one a chance. I'm so glad I did.
This is a very short novella, I read most of it at work in between doing what I was supposed to be doing. When I finished reading it I was amazed that the author could put so much into such a short story and I did not feel like it was rushed or that I was cheated out of something. The flow of the story was smooth and the connection between all the characters from Leo and Charlie to all the secondary characters were felt (and heartfelt) and I couldn't help but like them all. There is no long wait on finding out what the big secret is, that is revealed in the first chapter.
Leo is funny and sweet and such a great guy. I loved his interaction with his parents and Charlie. There were several laugh out loud moments. Charlie, for what he went through, is strong and goes for what and who he wants at the end and he is not taking any no's for an answer. There is only one small sexy scene, nothing explicit or hardcore. Just sweet. I think anything more than what she gave with that one scene would have been too much and detracted from the moment and story.
This would make a great prequel to a more in depth novel.

I liked the beginning, but then everything sort of unravels. It’s a bit of a mess really, at least until the ending.
If some most of the scenes were abandoned to focus on developing the two MC’s and their relationship then this would have been so much better. There are just way too many tangents with secondary characters. This was more like the meandering adventures of Leo, with just a sprinkle of romance.
Any Closer is a short fix of fluff if you’re craving a dose of Calmes. It’s still fun though, and quick enough that it’s not too painful.

ok read. Very likable characters...Leo is the oversized construction manager... Charlie is the ex porno star who came to work for Leo 3 years ago... this novella is cute but nothing special
