Wow, I have never been so disappointed...

I don't normally write reviews for books but this was just inexcusable. I (a medical student) was using this book to study for my shelf exam in surgery and I couldn't believe how many mistakes there were in the answers section! Many of the explanations of the questions would clearly seem to say that the answer was, for example, (A) but then the answer listed would be (D). I assume these were all printing errors or something like that. Don't get me wrong, the explanations in this book are great and really helped, but it ended up taking me much longer than expected to go through the answers because I would really have to spend some time figuring out which answer was the REAL answer according to the explanation. And actually there was one explanation that was as far as I know completely wrong, but that may just be due to an outdated question.

In summary, really, with this being the 10th edition of Pretest Surgery, the number of errors in the answer section is really inexcusable. The book did help but I am sure there are other question books out there that may be better. While I generally like the pretest series, I would recommend waiting for the 11th Edition or get another book in this case. Using this book was just plain too annoying.

Look for new interactive palm version

Pretest now has standalone programs of the books (not the cumbersome pdf files). It is interactive in that it lets you choose your answer and gives you immediate feedback with right and wrong choices (no need flipping through pages), allows you to review missed answers, randomize questions and answer choices. Basically, it's a lot like qbank for third year. I used the palm version for surgery and loved it because I always had my palm with me and could do questions while I was waiting for an attending to finally scrub into a case. You'd be surprised at how small little bits of time add up! I finished pretest while only doing questions at the hospital in less than two weeks.

Too detailed of questions, but the explanations atone for it

Although the questions sometimes get too detailed for purposes of Step 2 - type exams, the explanations are excellent and tend to cover more basic facts. This atones for the occasional question that states, "current research states ..." and puts it in the grasp of most medical students. This is a good book to cover (or at least sample) if you are taking NBMLE shelf exams.

Fantastic Introduction to Handwriting Analysis

Filled with quizzes and teach-yourself reviews, this book is a great introduction into graphology. You will learn how to analyze samples, looking for component tells, but ultimately getting a bigger picture into the writer's psyche, and perhaps your own. In any case, it is very practical and will teach you how to analyze with very little difficulty because she makes it extremely logical. A great book for those who are just learning as well as those who wish to brush up on their skills.

Joan Shelley Rubin is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Rochester and a Fellow of the Society of American Historians. She is the author of Songs of Ourselves: The Uses of Poetry in America (Harvard, 2007), The Making of Middlebrow Culture (UNC Press, 1992), and Constance Rourke and American Culture (UNC Press, 1980) and co-editor of the History of the Book in America (UNC Press, 2009).

Scott E. Casper is a Dean and Professor of History of the University of Nevada, Reno, where he teaches 19th-century United States History and American cultural history. His publications include Sarah Johnson's Mount Vernon: The Forgotten History of an American Shrine (Hill & Wang, 2008) and Constructing American Lives: Biography and Culture in Nineteenth Century America (UNC Press, 1999).

This of course can be a stand alone short story, but is truly part of the James Potter series by the same author, falling in-between books 2 and 3. One would consider it required reading honestly. I can't say enough good things about the author, he has truly elevated "fanfiction" into an art form with this series.

If you are at all a fan of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, you are doing yourself a grave disservice if you haven't already devoured the James Potter series. Go forth, wands raised high and do your required reading!

Geoff Lancaster is Dean of Academic Studies at the London School of Commerce and was formerly Chairman of Durham Associates Group Ltd, which he guided to obtaining the Queen’s Award for Exporting. He was formerly Senior Examiner to the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Chief Examiner to the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management. His Professorship is a lifetime award for research and publishing in the area marketing.

Paul Richards was formerly Head of the School of Law at the University of Huddersfield. He has had many years of experience as a university academic in contract law, land law and trusts and formerly served as Chief Examiner in the Law of Contract to the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. The book is arranged to provide both background and overview into many facets of petroleum engineering, particularly as practised in the offshore environments of North West Europe. The material is largely based on the authors' experience as teachers and consultants and is supplemented by worked problems where they are believed to enhance understanding. Loved this book!

An excellent read. This book follows the first novel 'What did I learn Today? Lessons on a journey to Unconditional Self Love'. Brilliantly written. It provides a more in-depth view of the women of East Africa as they try to be self sufficient after the war. The writer shares valuable lessons she learnt which we can apply to our own lives. It points the reader to think about and find an answer to the question, why are we here? Thought provocating, insightful, humbling. If you love Oprah's Super Soul Sunday, Deepak Chopra or Maya Angelo, you will love this book. Highly recommended!

Great book Akosua! It truly inspired me...read it all in two days...

What stood out to me a lot is how wise these folks are. The media always showcases poverty and strife...but no one really portrays the intelligence these people possess. Thank you for doing that! While they may be as academically qualified as some of us, their wisdom is infallible. I love how they all knew why they were here...the real reason....not what we see on television or other social media as to why we should be here...it made me think...great lessons learned great stories told! Well done!

Two thought provoking books..."what did I learn today" and "Nyabo..why are you here" I truly appreciate the transparency of the authour...as we would put it "she was real" I haven't completely read a book in ages and read these 2 one after the next in a week. Many things resonated with me and the lessons were learnt and re-iterated. One is provoked to delve into learning more about yourself and using the gifts and talents that you have been given to serve and to show Love. Its a Must Read!
